The Crisis in Gaza – CWUHA/CWU Appeal – UPDATE

This update on the CWU/CWUHA National Gaza appeal highlights the strong support from CWU Branches and Regions. To date, over £20,000 has been raised through donations from branches, CWU Head Office, and CWU Humanitarian Aid.

We are pleased to announce that CWUHA has formalised a partnership with UK-Med, which will directly support the people of Gaza.

UK-Med is a humanitarian medical aid charity. Born of the NHS, they are the first UK-based NGO to be verified as an Emergency Medical Team by the World Health Organisation. They provide health care for people impacted by disasters or conflict, drawing on a range of health and non-health expertise to support our global responses.

The £20,000 raised has been used to support the ongoing delivery of life-saving aid in Gaza, including the purchase of essential medical equipment and supplies for UK-Med run field hospitals.

UK-Med has delivered over 1,000,000 consultations in Gaza to date. The organization has built two field hospitals and works with more than 500 national staff, who work with NHS medics to provide critical medical aid. Despite these efforts, people continue to die from treatable illnesses, require support to recover from injuries and increasingly need mental health support.

Although recent news coverage has shifted focus, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with acute food insecurity persisting despite a fragile ceasefire. UN officials warn of increasingly dire conditions in Gaza and the West Bank.

Since the conflict started:

  • Over 72,000 people have tragically died, including over 21,000 children.
  • More than 1.4 million people face extreme hunger.
  • Over 175,500 have been injured.
  • Only 3% of health facilities in Gaza are fully functioning.
  • 90% of Gaza’s 2.1million population has been displaced.

We recognise the deep concern among Branches regarding the situation in Gaza and urge those who have not yet donated to consider supporting the appeal. CWU members and branches are encouraged to continue their support for Gaza-related charities and this initiative.

Every donation makes a difference:

  • £25 could supply 20 courses of antibiotics to stop life-threatening infections.
  • £30 could buy 1 pack of Celox gauze to help stop a life-threatening bleed when seconds count.
  • £50 could cover the cost of 1 health consultation, bringing care and support when it matters most.
  • £100 could buy a large surgical pack, equipping a team to conduct a lifesaving surgery.

Donations should be sent to:
