Volunteer to take part in an Aid Convoy
CWUHA is looking for volunteers to join our aid convoys, normally to Moldova.
If you are interested in taking part… then please continue reading:
- Each vehicle has two drivers, so we are looking for duos.
- The size of the convoy will be dependent on the number of volunteers, but at least 4 vehicles
- You will be away for normally just over 2 weeks. Date TBC.
- All volunteers will need to be or become members of CWUHA (minimum £2 per month).
- Volunteers will need to provide a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (previously CRB checks).
- It is a hard 4,000-mile round trip so you must be in good health and competent to drive a large vehicle through Europe. As a result of further changes in EU legislation we will no longer be using light goods vehicles. Any future volunteers will require at least a class 3 HGV license along with DCPC qualification.
- If selected you will be provided with a vehicle, fuel card and insurance.
- You will need to help raise the funds and aid for your vehicle. You will be given a wish list of the items you will be expected to carry on your vehicle. Your branch and region might assist you with this expense.

- You will have to work in your own time i.e. fundraising, collecting/buying aid, packing the aid into boxes, completing a manifest, and loading your vehicle.
- The selection of all convoy participants is at the absolute
- discretion of the trustees.
- If you work for BT/Openreach or RM you may get paid release for the duration of the convoy.
- You will be provided with the details of a mentor from the charity who can advise on all aspects of preparing for a convoy including sourcing of aid.

Volunteer at the CWUHA supported School in Tanzania
If you are interested in volunteering at the CWUHA supported school we will be happy to organise flights, accommodation, time helping at the school and contacts in-country for safaris and mountain climbs.
At present CWUHA cannot provide any funding but both Royal Mail and BT may give matched time leave for time spent in-country for individual volunteers. Each volunteer is required to affiliate to CWUHA and will have to undergo a DBS check (to be organised by CWUHA, if necessary) or produce a current copy of one.
Although this worthwhile project has to be completely funded by the individuals who volunteer. CWUHA can help with fundraising and sponsorship ideas.
Anyone who may be interested should contact Trish Vollans: trish.vollans@openreach.co.uk or 07720 076940.
