Red & Blue Join Forces for CWUHA
In May the Red half and the Blue half of the city joined forces to run the Manchester 10K Run to help raise funds for CWUHA.
Tony Rupa, CWU National Officer and die hard Red (and no he doesn’t have a Cockney accent) and Alan Boud, Manchester Combined branch and die hard Blue both decided to take part in the 10k Run to help raise money for CWUHA.
Tony who normally runs the distance under 55 mins decided to run in a sumo suit whilst Alan wisely stuck to running in shorts and vest. Tony completed the course in 71 mins whilst Alan (15 years younger and not wearing a Sumo suit) did it in 48 mins.
Between them they raised over £3,000 a fantastic amount of money.
The money they have raised will help purchase new desks and equipment for a
schoolattached to an orphanage in Razdavitza, Bulgaria. The school educates hundreds of children residing in the orphanage plus children from the local village; they receive very little help from the state. The desks and equipment that the children use are worse for wear and they have very little stationary and school books to work with. With Tony and Alan’s help we aim to put this right.
Both Tony and Alan have been long-term supporters of CWUHA. Tony was instrumental in involving the Union’s solicitors in CWUHA’s work resulting in thousands of pounds being donated each year by the panel solicitors and Simpson Millar sponsoring and sending employees to travel on convoys. Alan has now decided that he wants to be become even more involved in the running of the charity and became a trustee in June 2008.
Well done Lads we are proud of you!
